Two years ago I was in the worst shape of my life. I was at least 50 lbs overweight, intimidated by being seen as fat at the gym, and had never done most of these exercises in my life. I was at 30% body fat, had trouble climbing stairs without breathing heavy and found myself buying larger clothes on a regular basis. What changed? I became afraid for my future. I was 43 years old and felt like what I thought 50 years old would feel like. I didn't see myself having a fruitful retirement and that scared me. I had worked hard to have a retirement but felt that at my current pace I would not live long enough to enjoy it.
Since making the decision to change my lifestyle, I have lost 50 lbs but put on over 15 lbs of muscle, am under 20% body fat, and just recently had a negative cardiac stress test. My doctor actually told me that he was happy to see a 40 year old male with a negative stress test for a change. This made me feel fantastic about myself and made me realize that this is why I work hard to get myself back into reasonable health. Again, with all honesty, I still have work to do and as I sit here writing this, I think about the 20k bike ride I will do tomorrow.
I hope that by reading this you have faith that there is a healthier your inside and together we will make sure that the new you will be what you want. I cannot promise you the 'six pack abs' or elimination of problem area fat, not because this program doesn't work, but more so because those body types are difficult to achieve and you will have to adhere to a very strict diet to achieve those body types. I, myself, do not have six pack abs simply because I enjoy food. I have changed my diet to include 'healthier' food choices but in reality it is about eating the right foods at the right times of the day and then only the correct amount of foods each time you eat. This is called a diet, and to me diets suck. I eat enough calories to maintain health and energy, trying to eat as healthy as possible, but that is it. Keep in mind, I have lost 50 lbs and reduce my body fat by 11% eating this way.
I look forward to your participation and encourage your post, comments, and feedback. Let me know what you are having trouble with, what you liked and didn't like, and most importantly your successes and failures. Yes, your failures!!!! We all learn from your struggles and you will be surprised at how many others are having the same struggles. Maybe someone out in the ether of the world wide web has already beaten that particular struggle and we can learn from them. So post away.
Thanks and good luck.
